Synopsis: Vijaya Prabhakaran defended the DMK-DMDK alliance as a cohesive and people-driven front, asserting it stands in contrast to what he described as a fragmented NDA. Reaffirming his roots in Virudhunagar, he projected confidence in a strong comeback while cautiously assessing actor Vijay’s political entry as a factor whose impact will be clear only after the election results.

In an exclusive interaction with South First, Vijaya Prabhakaran, son of late DMDK founder Vijayakanth and a key leader of the party, spoke about his decision to recontest from Virudhunagar, the significance of the DMK-DMDK alliance, and his views on actor Vijay’s political entry.

Prabhakaran, who had lost from the Virudhunagar Parliamentary constituency by a narrow margin in 2024, expressed confidence in a strong comeback, calling the current alliance a “victory front” capable of winning 200 seats.

Q: You had been contesting from Virudhunagar since 2024. Last time you lost by a narrow margin. What made you choose this constituency again?

Vijaya Prabhakaran: This is my native, my grandfather was born from this constituency. My dad is native here. I have had a very good run in 2024. People of Virudhunagar wanted me to be here. DMK Alliance people, and DMK head Stalin sir and Premalatha Vijayakanth wanted us to contest in this constituency. So as a leader I said I accept whatever they say and I am here for the people.

Q: This is the first time DMDK has formed an alliance with DMK since its inception. Even during Vijayakanth’s time, he hadn’t aligned with DMK. How do you see this decision?

Vijaya Prabhakaran: This alliance has to be formed by 2016 itself, when respected Karunanidhi sir and the captain were both alive. This alliance should have been formed in 2016. Then again in 2020, this alliance had to be formed when the captain was alive.

But now everything comes to the plate on time they say. I think this is the time when Stalin sir and Premlatha Vijayakanth ma’am both have spoken well and this alliance has been formed. Definitely it is a victory alliance and we will win 200 seats in this alliance.

Q: What is the difference between being in DMK alliance and NDA alliance?

Vijaya Prabhakaran: Nothing is the difference between DMK and NDA alliance. This alliance is a victory alliance and moreover in NDA alliance at the moment there is too much confusion. Each party is split up into two. AIADMK is split into four. PMK and BJP into two. So, it is not a winning alliance. Too many people just want to pull each other’s leg and everyone wants to go to a selfish alliance. Over 20 alliance parties are with us. Yet, everyone is sticking together like a family. You can see everyone is here. More than my people, DMK supporters are around me and they want me to win this seat. Hence, I feel this is a better alliance than NDA.

Q: You are claiming that this is a victory alliance, but NDA is saying there is a strong anti-incumbency. How do you respond?

Vijaya Prabhakaran: Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But this is people’s perspective, not mine. DMK alliance will definitely win 200 seats this time.

Q: Your ‘brother’ Vijay is contesting this election. There is a perception that many youngsters are supporting him. How do you see his political entry and chances?

Vijaya Prabhakaran: Vijay is like a brother and definitely youngsters are backing him. But at this moment we have to see if he is cutting through votes, proving percentage, or winning numbers. Having said that, I can’t deny that he is a major crowd puller. But at this moment, I feel DMK alliance will win 200 seats.
