International airport in Hosur: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin announces in assembly

Apart from the international airport, Stalin has also announced that a world-class library and intellectual centre will be set up in Trichy.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday, 27 June, announced the plans to set up an international airport in Hosur.

“The proposed airport, with a capacity to handle 30 million passengers per year, will be sprawled over 2,000 acres” Stalin announced in the state Assembly.

Apart from the international airport, Stalin has also announced that a world-class library and intellectual centre will be set up in Trichy.

Noting that the state has been leading in the Export Readiness Index of 2022, MK Stalin said, “Tamil Nadu, which is the second largest economic state in India, is taking various initiatives to quickly achieve the goal of raising the economy to $1 trillion by 2030.”

Further mentioning that the state has emerged as a primary destination for global investments, Stalin said they are developing industries in all districts.

Reiterating the need for an international airport in Hosur, Stalin said, “It is necessary to establish an airport at Hosur to help the overall socio-economic development of not only Hosur but Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri region.”

Speaking of Hosur, Stalin noted, “Especially in the electronics and electric vehicle manufacturing sector, Hosur has been attracting more and more investments in the last few years. The Tamil Nadu government is currently implementing various visionary projects to set up modern infrastructure in the rapidly growing city of Hosur, with such special features, to make it an important economic development centre of the state.”

‘Significant economic boost’ 

Calling it a dream project, Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa thanked the Chief Minister for the initiative.

A press release from the minister’s office said TRB Rajaa has been advocating for an airport in Hosur since his tenure at the State Planning Commission.

The minister further noted, “The announcement of the new airport in Hosur is a monumental step forward for the region. This project will greatly enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth, benefiting not only Hosur but also neighbouring districts such as Dharmapuri and Salem, while also providing a significant boost to various parts of Bengaluru.”

“With Hosur’s excellent weather, the new airport will foster a twin-city ecosystem with Bengaluru, propelling growth in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Honourable Chief Minister MK Stalin for turning this vision into reality,” said TRB Rajaa.

He further added, “The region has emerged as a nucleus for auto and EV manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and electronics, and is developing into an IT hub with a planned IT park. Prominent companies such as Tata Electronics, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Titan, and Rolls-Royce (IAMPL) have established significant operations in the area.”

Further noting that the city already is well connected to other major business hubs such as Chennai, Sriperumbudur, and Coimbatore, Rajaa said, “The airport will undoubtedly enhance the region’s connectivity and attract further investments, solidifying Hosur’s position as a major industrial and economic hub.”
