Synopsis: At the 47th weekly press meet, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss lambasted his son, former Union Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, for orchestrating a party split and fomenting violence. Regretting Anbumani’s ministerial elevation, he claimed three of five MLAs defected, warned of imminent gun use by Anbumani’s camp, banned him from PMK symbols, and announced a pivotal alliance reveal at the 30 December Athur meeting.
At the 47th weekly press meet held in Thailapuram, Villupuram, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr S Ramadoss launched a scathing attack on his son and former Union Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, accusing him of engineering a split in the party and encouraging violent behaviour among his supporters.
Ramadoss said he had run the party for 46 years with “relationships, values and discipline,” but admitted that “one of the political mistakes I made was making Anbumani a Union Minister.”
He alleged that a group led by Anbumani and his wife Sowmiya Anbumani was attempting to divide the party, and that those who once called him “Ayya” with respect were now insulting him and party president GK Mani on social media after shifting their loyalties.
Out of five PMK MLAs, Ramadoss claimed that only two were still with him, while three had joined Anbumani’s camp.
“They say Anbumani cannot run the party like me, but that he has seen many prime ministers,” Ramadoss said in a sarcastic tone.
Ramadoss further said that while Tamil Nadu originally had 32 districts, it was he who pressed for their bifurcation leading to 38 districts today.
In a serious allegation, Ramadoss said Anbumani’s camp was using knives, sickles and other weapons to attack party workers. “So far they have not used guns. Soon, they will,” he warned.
He cited an incident in Salem where a vehicle carrying PMK functionary Arul was allegedly attacked when he went to offer condolences.
“Is this what they call decent and developmental politics?” Ramadoss asked.
Ramadoss appealed to the public and party cadre not to believe or share derogatory social media content. He also issued a strict order:
“Anbumani must not use the PMK name, must not use my name, must not use the initial ‘R’. He has no right to use the party flag or identity.”
He reiterated: “There is no connection between me, PMK, and Anbumani anymore.”
Quoting late DMK leader M Karunanidhi, Ramadoss said Tamil Nadu should remain “a garden of peace” and politics must remain civilised.
He ended with a Tamil proverb: “Dharma may suffer temporary setbacks, but in the end, dharma alone will win.”
Ramadoss also said that if any violence occurs against PMK workers, the full responsibility lies with “Anbumani Ramadoss and Sowmiya Anbumani.”
Ramadoss announced that the PMK general body meeting will be held on 30 December at Athur, Thalaivasal, where a major decision on alliance will be declared.
