The police said the SIT was constituted to conduct further investigation into the case against Gem Veeramani and other accused.
Synopsis: On Monday, the mother of a minor victim appeared before the SIT and submitted a complaint. Based on her complaint, another case has now been registered under the relevant sections of law, and the SIT is investigating the case.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Gem Veeramani case and related POCSO cases has registered a fresh case based on a complaint filed by the mother of a minor victim, according to a Tamil Nadu Police press release issued on Monday, 28 September.
The mother appeared before the SIT on Monday and submitted her complaint, following which, the case has been registered under the relevant sections of law and is being investigated.
The police said the SIT was constituted on the orders of the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, Tamil Nadu, to conduct further investigation into the case against Gem Veeramani and other accused, as well as the POCSO cases registered in connection with it.
The SIT has also been taking legal action on complaints received from victims, the police said.
The police have appealed to members of the public who wish to file complaints, or anyone who has information, facts, documents or other important details related to the cases, to share them directly with the SIT.

The police said the identity of those providing information would be kept confidential and that all information received would be examined and appropriate action taken immediately.
In October 2025, a child welfare volunteer approached an inspector of the Anti-Vice Squad and handed over a pen drive. The volunteer said an unidentified person had delivered the storage device to his office.
According to the information given to the police, the unidentified person said the pen drive contained a video showing industrialist Veeramani allegedly committing a sexual offence against a minor girl in the bedroom of the house of his associate, Shanthi.
The police examined the video and found footage of an adult man allegedly committing a sexual offence against a minor girl. The Anti-Vice Squad of the Central Crime Branch, Greater Chennai Police, subsequently registered the case.
The initial investigation did not result in Veeramani’s arrest. In February 2026, the police submitted a report seeking to drop further action, citing “lack of evidence” and difficulties in establishing the identity and whereabouts of the minor girl involved.
The special POCSO court rejected the closure report in August and ordered a fresh investigation. The CCB subsequently arrested Veeramani, Shanthi and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, on 29 August.
The fresh investigation uncovered additional digital evidence and statements from other alleged survivors.
The police later arrested Ganesan, a former associate of Veeramani, alleging that he possessed a video involving a minor and had failed to inform the authorities.
