First TVK government: 10 ministers likely to take oath with ‘CM’ Vijay

V Sathyabama, and S Keerthana are the likely women ministers, who may take the oath of office and secracy along with Vijay on Sunday.

Synopsis: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is set to form the new government in Tamil Nadu, with a 10-member Cabinet likely to take oath along with party chief Vijay on 10 May. Several senior leaders, including KA Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna, CTR Nirmal Kumar, and retired IRS officer Arunraj, are likely to get key ministerial portfolios in the new ministry.

A 10-member Cabinet is likely to take the oath of office and secrecy along with TVK president and Chief Minister-designate C Joseph Vijay on Sunday, 10 May.

According to TVK sources, a tentative list of ministers and their expected portfolios has been prepared.

Vijay likely to hold key departments

Vijay is expected to serve as the Chief Minister while also holding important portfolios such as General Administration, and Home Affairs.

Senior politician and former minister KA Sengottaiyan is expected to be inducted into the Cabinet and may be allotted either the Public Works Department or the Higher Education Department.

Since he has experience handling the education portfolio, party circles believe Higher Education could be assigned to him.

Retired IRS officer KG Arunraj is also expected to be inducted into the Cabinet and may be allotted either the Commercial Taxes Department or the Finance portfolio.

Aadhav Arjuna, who serves as TVK’s election wing secretary and was elected from Villivakkam, is expected to become Minister for Sports and Prohibition & Excise.

TVK General Secretary N Anand is likely to be given the Municipal Administration portfolio.

CTR. Nirmal Kumar, who won from Tirupparankundram, is expected to be allotted either the Electricity Department or the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.

Party treasurer P Venkataraman is widely expected to be entrusted with the School Education Department.

Madhar Badhyrudeen is likely to be given charge of the Minority Welfare Department.

Women ministers 

Sources also indicate that women will be represented in the first TVK government.

Former MP V Sathyabama, who joined TVK along with Sengottaiyan and won from Tiruppur North, is likely to be given a ministerial berth.

Similarly, S Keerthana, who became the first woman MLA from Sivakasi constituency, is also being discussed as a possible ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders have confirmed that Rahul Gandhi will attend the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday.
