The Tamil Nadu Revenue Department on Thursday, 21 July, handed the keys to the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai’s Royapettah to Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS).

This came after the Madras High Court on Wednesday quashed the AIADMK headquarters sealing order and directed the department to hand over the keys to EPS.

It also ordered the AIADMK cadres not to visit the headquarters for a month.

The department had sealed the AIADMK headquarters after a clash between the supporters of EPS and O Panneerselvam (OPS) on 11 July after the party’s general council meeting.

Following the court orders, the department officials unsealed the headquarters on Thursday and handed over the keys to EPS.

Former minister CV Shanmugam, office manager V Mahalingam, and senior leaders of the party were present at the occasion.

‘Objects missing’

After assessing the damage caused to the assets inside the AIADMK headquarters, the party claimed that several things, including objects used by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, were missing.

The party claimed that the statue of Jayalalithaa, a silver sceptre, and a sword went missing after the clash.

It also alleged that the OPS faction deliberately broke into the office’s account room to steal important documents.

The EPS faction apparently recorded a video of the condition of the headquarters.

Its renovation process is likely to begin in a day or two.

“It’s a victory for us, but we are worried about the damages inside the party headquarters by the OPS faction. The court order explains to whom the party belongs,” AIADMK spokesperson Nirmala Periyasamy told South First.

OPS is likely to approach civil courts in the wake of the Madras High Court order, she added.
