‘Edited’, out of context videos released by BJP chief Annamalai irk the DMK

Two videos which Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai shared on social media have raised the eyebrows of netizens — and invited a response from the DMK.

On Sunday, 29 January, Annamalai shared a 40-seconds video clip of DMK Treasurer TR Baalu seen speaking at a public meeting held in Madurai.

In the video clip shared by the BJP leader, Baalu is seen saying that he had demolished hundreds of temples of Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswathi, and Parvathy in his constituency, knowing that he will not get votes.

Annamalai shared the clip with a caption saying: “DMK men take pride in demolishing 100-year-old Hindu temples. The very reason we want the HR&CE dissolved and want the temple freed from the clutches of government.”

The DMK IT Wing hit back saying the clip was edited and also shared the full clip of the speech, with context.

Further, the DMK IT Wing Secretary TRB Rajaa took on Annamalai.

“While we strive to engage in civil dialogue for the overall well-being of the state it’s sad to see the party which rules a nation give space to immature half-baked attention seekers to use a chair occupied by some respectable individuals who fought the political fight based on ideology & programme implementation rather than wanting to feed of the impact of cheap #FakeNews & edited videos.BJP’s reliance on videos is.. (sic),” TRB Rajaa tweeted.

Annamalai had also shared a 2 min-27 seconds video clip where the senior DMK Minister KN Nehru and Congress candidate for the Erode East by-poll, EVKS Elangovan, has seen interacting with each other during a booth committee meeting held in the constituency.

The video clip has been subtitled in Tamil, where Nehru speaks to Elangovan about the election and some “cash distribution”.

Tagged the Twitter handles of the Election Commission of India and CEO of Tamil Nadu ECI, Annamalai said: “DMK faces the election pinning their hopes on money power & they presume that anything could be bought with money! If in doubt, check this out!”

In response to the tweet, EVKS Elangovan, while speaking to reporters in Erode, said that Annamalai is blabbering and he does not want to reply to his blabbering.
