Synopsis: The DMK Parliamentary Members Meeting witnessed the passage of three resolutions. DMK reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary constituencies in the face of the upcoming delimitation process.
The DMK Parliamentary Members Meeting, focused on the budget session and key issues affecting Tamil Nadu, was held at Anna Arivalayam’s Murasoli Maran Conference Hall in Chennai on Sunday, 9 March.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin, also discussed the delimitation process, reservation policies, and financial allocations.
The budget session of the Parliament resumed on Monday amid the stand-off between the DMK and the Union government over issues including the three-language policy in education and the upcoming delimitation.
The meeting of DMK MPs also witnessed the passage of three resolutions. DMK reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary constituencies in the face of the upcoming delimitation process.
The party accused the BJP-led Union government of attempting to penalise Southern states for their successful population control measures by reducing their parliamentary representation. The meeting commended Chief Minister Stalin for his leadership in raising the issue and pledged to fight in Parliament to ensure Tamil Nadu does not lose a single seat.
It also resolved to unite with other states at risk of losing constituencies due to delimitation. Party MPs and coalition allies decided to work together to mobilise political parties from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab. The resolution emphasised Tamil Nadu’s role in leading a national movement to demand justice and equitable representation.
The meeting also underscored the importance of state rights in the ongoing delimitation discussions. It was decided that DMK MPs, alongside alliance partners and members of the INDIA bloc, will push back against any measures that undermine the federal structure.
The resolution pledged continuous efforts in Parliament to protect affected states’ representation and ensure fairness in the delimitation process.

Raya Sabha MP Puspanathan Wilson noted that the primary agenda of the DMK during the Parliamnet session would be the opposing the three-language policy mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
“The Parliament session will address key issues alongside routine business. The Union government’s statement will be reviewed, and we will focus on opposing the imposition of the language policy. The primary agenda is to emphasise the resolution that has already been introduced,” he told South First.
Former Rajya Sabha MP RS Bharathi highlighted additional issues that the party would bring up in Parliament. “Reservation, NEP, delimitation, and the three resolutions we have submitted will be discussed. We will also raise the matter of withheld funds. A protest is planned before the session, and everything will proceed as per our strategy,” he told South First.
DMK National Spokesperson Salem Dharanidharan emphasised the chief minister’s proactive stance on the issue.
“The chief minister has already raised this matter, and we will follow the official press release. The key discussion will revolve around the delimitation issue. Like any other bill, this must align with the Constitution. Extending the scheme for at least 30 years requires agreement from all states, making it a crucial topic for us to raise,” he told South First.
Speaking to South First, political analyst Raveendran Duraiswamy noted that the DMK should ensure the support from other Opposition parties and regional parties.
“The Parliament session will focus on crucial topics such as funds, language issues, delimitation, state rights, and the Governor’s privileges. These matters will be discussed both socially and politically. The DMK and Congress will continue their alliance, as even Modi understands their significance,” he said.
“DMK will receive support from regional parties, the INDIA bloc, and Tamil Nadu’s Congress supporters. The alliance must ensure strong backing in Parliament to safeguard state government rights,” he added.
With the beginning of the second phase of the parliamentary budget session on Monday, DMK MPs and their allies are set to push back against the delimitation process which they see as an unfair redistribution of parliamentary representation.
According to Tamil Nadu MPs, the DMK has vowed to fight the issue both inside Parliament and through coordinated political mobilisation, according to MPs of Tamil Nadu.
