MK Stalin with DMK leaders

The DMK district secretaries on Friday, 16 August, passed three resolutions at a meeting held under the leadership of DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin. The meeting was held in the Kalaingar Hall, in Chennai.

Among the three resolutions, one was thanking the Union government, while the other was condemning it.

The DMK functionaries thanked the Union government for issuing a commemorative coin engraved with the image of the late former Chief Minister Kalaingar Karunanidhi.

The ₹100 commemorative coin will be released by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at a ceremony held by the Union government in Chennai on 18 August.

Further praising the former chief minister, Stalin noted, “Karunanidhi continued to be the voice of state autonomy to strengthen India’s federal ideology, he was a guide to various political leaders in strengthening Indian democracy, and played an important role in electing many Presidents and Prime Ministers in his century.”

In the path of Kalingar

On the other hand, they condemned the Union government for lack of funds allocation to Tamil Nadu in the recently passed Union budget. They further claimed that the Union government betrayed the southern state.

The meeting was attended by DMK leaders including DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, Ministers I Periyasamy, KN Nehru and MPs Kanimozhi Karunanithi, and TR Baalu.

In the third resolution, the party resolved to protect the rights of the state in the same way Kalingar Karunanidhi did. Quoting the leader, the resolution read, “Uravukku kai koduppom, Urimaikku Kural Koduppom”, which translates to “We will lend a hand of friendship, and at the same time voice our rights.”

As the third resolution, “We will protect the rights of the state in the way of the Kalaingar “Let’s lend a hand to the relationship, give a voice to the right”, a resolution has been passed in the DMK district secretaries’ meeting.

At the same meeting, Chief Minister MK Stalin released his book titled “Then Thisaiyil Theerpu” in Tamil, which translates to  “Decision of the South” in English. The book chronicles the mandate the DMK and its allies secured in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The INDIA bloc, of which DMK is a part, won all the 40 MP seats of Tamil Nadu, including the lone seat of Tamil Nadu.
