CM Stalin makes 8 new announcements for Mayiladuthurai district

Stalin inaugurated 47 completed projects worth ₹48.17 crore and laid the foundation stone for 12 new schemes with an estimated cost of ₹113.51 crore.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated various government projects and made 8 new announcements for Mayiladuthurai district during his visit on Wednesday, 16 July.

He inaugurated 47 completed projects worth ₹48.17 crore and laid the foundation stone for 12 new schemes with an estimated cost of ₹113.51 crore. Additionally, government welfare assistance worth ₹271.24 crore was distributed to 54,461 beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Stalin highlighted that 1,62,396 women in the district have benefited under the Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam. He reiterated his long-standing demand for the retrieval of Katchatheevu and criticised the Union government for not taking any action on the issue, even to protect fishermen from attacks. He urged the Prime Minister to directly intervene and bring a permanent resolution.

The eight new announcements for Mayiladuthurai district include:

  1. A railway overbridge at Needur to ease vehicular traffic in Mayiladuthurai.
  2. Upgradation of the Tharangambadi–Aaduthurai Road into a two-lane road to support tourism.
  3. Installation of a statue for freedom fighter Sami Nagappan Padaiyatchiyar in Mayiladuthurai.
  4. Renovation of the Kuthalam Canal at a cost of ₹7 crore.
  5. Infrastructure improvements at Thazhampettai Vellakovil temple for ₹8 crore.
  6. Construction of a new municipal office building for ₹5 crore.
  7. Strengthening of sea walls in Thirumullaivasal to protect fishermen communities.
  8. Drainage development in temple car streets of Sirkazhi municipality at a cost of ₹8 crore.
