A day after violence in Kaniyamoor in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district over the death of a 17-year-old girl, the state police on Monday, 18 July, arrested two teachers named in the suicide note by the class 12 student.
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police Selvakumar told South First, “Two teachers accused by the girl have been arrested.”
The teachers arrested by the police have been identified as P Haripriya (40), and J Krithika (28).

Srimathi was found dead on 13 July. The school administration claimed she allegedly died by suicide.
However, the victim’s parents claimed that the girl was tortured and then thrown off the hostel.
A senior police officer said the girl died due to a brain haemorrhage.
Members of various student groups and relatives of the victim protested near the school on Sunday demanding justice for the student, but then went on a rampage after talks with the administration and the police failed to reach an acceptable conclusion in the early hours of the day.
According to the police, protestors torched school and police vehicles, stole several school properties, and pelted stones on security personnel.
The cops said a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 294(b) (uttering obscenities), 323 (the penalty for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 332 (voluntarily causing problems to deter public servants from duty) and 506 II has been filed in this regard.
Meanwhile, Madras High Court Justice N Sathish Kumar has directed the Tamil Nadu government to form a special team to arrest all involved in the violence.
The high court has also ordered a fresh postmortem by a group of three doctors and a retired forensic director.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, while briefing the people of the state through video conference on the occasion of Tamil Nadu Day, said the state would never tolerate any kind of violence, and assured the masses that the culprits would be punished.
