The man initially denied any wrongdoing but later admitted to the crime.
A man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his six-year-old daughter in Chennai, police said.
The man, a former executive member of Puratchi Bharatham Katchi, reportedly hit the girl on the head, which required medical treatment. On realising that girl was sexually assaulted as well, doctors at the Egmore Hospital alerted the Puliyanthoppu police.
A probe initiated after registering a case at the Puliyanthoppu All Women Police Station led to the man’s arrest under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
The accused initially denied any wrongdoing but admitted to the crime during interrogation, police said, adding that he has been remanded in Puzhal Jail for 15 days. Investigators said they would seek his custody if required.
The girl’s mother, an Anganwadi worker, is the man’s second wife.
Incidentally, the case came even as a comprehensive probe was on into the alleged sexual abuse of 13 girl students at a fake NCC camp in a Krishnagiri school.
