Chennai corporation invites applications from Differently-Abled persons for council nomination
The Greater Chennai Corporation has invited applications for the nomination of two differently-abled persons—one male and one female—as members of the civic body. This follows the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to ensuring representation of persons with disabilities in local governance.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had earlier announced that the voices of the differently-abled must be heard in local bodies, leading to a legal amendment to the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998 through Act 30 of 2025. As per Section 37(1)(i.a), eligible persons with disabilities residing within Chennai Corporation limits can now apply for nomination.
Application forms can be downloaded from www.chennaicorporation.gov.in between July 1 and July 17, 2025. Completed forms must be submitted to the Corporation Commissioner either in person or by post by 3:00 PM on July 17, 2025.
This initiative promotes equal opportunity and strengthens social justice in urban governance.
