A team of unidentified people cut the metal shutter of the shop and looted the ornaments along with diamonds worth ₹20 lakh.

Burglars cut shutter and loot 9 kg of gold ornaments, diamonds in Chennai

Miscreants looted over 9 kg of gold jewellery and diamonds from a shop by gas-cutting the shutter of the shop in Chennai in the early hours of Friday, 10 February.

The JL Gold Palace, owned by one Shridhar, is located at Paper Mills Road in Perambur.

According to the police, a team of unidentified people cut the metal shutter of the shop and looted the ornaments along with diamonds worth ₹20 lakh.

The miscreants took away the hard disc of the CCTVs fixed in and around the shop.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the proprietor of the shop, who resides on the second floor of the same building, found a big hole in the shop’s shutter. He subsequently alerted the police control room.

The Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police conducted a preliminary investigation and surmised that the burglary was a planned one.

Joint Commissioner of Police (North) V Ramya Bharathi and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Pulianthope) I Eswaran reached the spot and initiated a further inquiry.

A sniffer dog was pressed into action. The forensic experts analysed the shop and lifted some samples of fingerprints from the crime scene.

Additional Commissioner of Police (North) TS Anbu also visited the spot and said that six special teams had been formed to nab the culprits.

He added that the suspects used a welding machine cut the shutter.

He also stated that the CCTV footage of nearby shops and from the vicinity had been collected to identify the robbers.

Investigations were on with the staff of the shop. The AdCP said that they had a vital lead in the crime, and that the suspects would be arrested soon.
