A 32-year-old man from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh allegedly died by suicide at the Isha Yoga Centre near the Velliangiri foothills in Coimbatore on Friday, 22 July.

The victim has been identified as Gullu Ramana.

According to the police, he was visiting the centre to attend a six-month yoga programme. He reached the city on 15 July.

Coimbatore District (Rural) Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan told South First that Ramana was found hanging from the roof of his room.

He added, “The incident occurred around 7 am. We have recovered a suicide note from the spot.”

The SP did not elaborate on the reasons given by Ramana in the note for his suicide.

“We are still investigating the case. A detailed report on the incident will soon be submitted, along with the post-mortem report,” Badrinarayanan said.

The yoga centre’s PRO Balachandran claimed that Ramana took the extreme step due to personal reasons.

Alandurai Police sent the victim’s body to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

The police have reportedly informed Ramana’s family about the death.

“The family is likely to reach Coimbatore by Friday evening, and the postmortem will be conducted on Saturday at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital,” said Badrinarayanan.

The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC in this regard.

Balachandran claimed that the victim was doing fine, and that he had no issues at the centre.

The Isha Yoga Center is located on the foothills of Velliangiri in Coimbatore, and is a nonprofit spiritual organization founded by Jaggi Vasudev.
