Tamil Nadu Opposition AIADMK held a meeting of its executive committee on Friday, 16 August, and passed nine resolutions against the ruling DMK in the state and the BJP-led Union government.
The meeting was held at the party headquarters in Royapettah in Chennai presided by party chairman Tamil Magan Hussain, general secretary Edappadi Palanisami and other senior leaders.
AIADMK had drawn a blank in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election held at 40 constituencies in the state. The party had also lost the lone seat in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Soon after the general elections, Palanisamy held a consultation with the party leaders and had a constituency-wise analysis of the party’s electoral defeat.
At that time, office bearers of the party complained about the confusion in the selection of candidates, lack of coordination in election work and internal party disputes.
According to sources, several leaders insisted on action against the district secretaries since they were allegedly responsible for the party’s total rout in the elections.
Also, various administrators are said to have insisted that action should be taken against the district secretaries who were responsible for the election failure.
Subsequently, a meeting of district secretaries was scheduled to be held on 9 August, which was later cancelled. Later, the party leadership announced that an executive committee meeting would be held.
In the meeting held on Friday, the party condemned the Union government for not announcing any plans for Tami Nadu in the Union budget.
“It is condemnable no plans were announced for Tamil Nadu in the Union budget. The Union government should cancel the 18 percent GST on medical insurance premiums,” the party said.
The AIADMK also urged the Union government to declare the massive landslides in Waynad on Kerala that killed over 230 people as a national calamity.
A resolution was passed condemning the DMK government in the state over the lack of essential items in ration shops, laxity in providing free vetti saree and free school uniforms, cancellation of electricity tariff hike and implementation of a monthly calculation system of power consumption.
It also accused the DMK government of “paralysing and removing” the “noble” schemes that were being implemented during the AIADMK regime and alleged political vandalism.
The party also demanded that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu be fixed.
AIADMK alleged that due to administrative incompetence, the DMK government made the people of the state debtors by making them avail more loans and imposing more taxes.
The party also passed a resolution severely criticising the three years of rule by the DMK and said it was not an achievement but a rule of agony.
The party leaders also urged the cadres to work for the betterment of the party and ensure a sound victory in the 2026 Assembly and local body elections in the state.
