Sathyan alleged that an investigation conducted by the AIADMK uncovered thousands of fake voter entries across 15 booths in the Chepauk–Triplicane constituency.
Synopsis: AIADMK national spokesperson Kovai Sathyan has accused the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu of inserting thousands of fake voters across every constituency in the state, citing an investigation that reportedly uncovered 1,722 dubious entries in 15 booths of the Chepauk–Triplicane constituency. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan rejected the allegations, noting that electoral rolls are the responsibility of the Election Commission.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) National Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan has accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu of inserting ‘20,000 to 30,000 fake voters’ into voter lists of every constituency across the state.
He alleged that an investigation conducted by the AIADMK uncovered thousands of fake voter entries across 15 booths in the Chepauk–Triplicane constituency, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
“For the past one month, we conducted direct inspections in the Chepauk–Triplicane area. The constituency has a total of 220 booths. In 15 of them, when we verified the electoral roll house by house, we found 1,722 names listed but the individuals were not present in reality,” Sathyan said, speaking to the press on Friday, 12 September.
The allegations follow explosive claims by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi just months prior, who alleged large-scale electoral irregularities during the previous Lok Sabha elections. He presented purported evidence of “vote theft” at the Bengaluru Central constituency to illustrate the allegations.

Providing more details, Kovai Sathyan said when the AIADMK cross-checked the names on the voter lists:
He also stated that in the Thousand Lights constituency, 1,644 voters currently do not reside in that area.
“Just in Chennai alone, in every constituency, DMK has inserted 20,000 to 30,000 names into the rolls to facilitate bogus voting,” he alleged, adding that AIADMK had met the Chennai District Collector with supporting evidence and submitted a petition.
DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan dismissed the allegations, pointing out that the preparation of the electoral rolls is the responsibility of the ECI.
“Preparing, correcting, and updating the electoral roll is the responsibility of the Election Commission. How can DMK add fake voters into the list?” he asked.
“For long we have been accusing the BJP-led Election Commission of manipulating electoral rolls. Now, should we take it that AIADMK, which is BJP’s ally, is itself making the same allegation against the Election Commission?”
Elangovan further asserted that the AIADMK is trying to stir up a controversy despite having endured successive defeats in the Chepauk–Triplicane constituency.
“If you look at the constituencies they have pointed out, such as Chepauk–Triplicane, AIADMK has been repeatedly defeated there while DMK keeps winning. Hence, they are trying to stir up some issue,” he said.
“Especially at a time when criticism is mounting nationwide against BJP for vote theft, AIADMK is levelling baseless charges against DMK only to shield BJP.”
