Ahead of his roadshow, TN BJP Chief Annamalai submits ‘DMK Files Part 2’ documents to Governor

A couple of days ahead of his roadshow, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Wednesday, 26 July, met Governor RN Ravi in Chennai and submitted purported documents pertaining to his corruption allegations against the DMK leaders in what he said was DMK Files Part 2.

The second part of the DMK Files comes nearly three months after the first was released on 14 April.

As part of DMK Files, Annamalai accused a number of DMK leaders — including the “first family” of the party, referring to MK Stalin and his kin — of having amassed unaccounted wealth through corruption and not declaring it in their election affidavits.

DMK Files Part 2

Accompanied by senior BJP leaders, including VP Duraisamy, Karu Nagarajan, and Paul Kanagaraj, Annamalai met the Governor and handed a huge steel trunk said to contain the documents supporting his claims of corruption within the DMK.

However, the details of DMK Files Part 2 were not released to the media.

Annamalai wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “We presented a memorandum seeking his excellency’s intervention & suitable action concerning Part 2 of DMK files with documents on Benami connected to the DMK Ministers/MLAs/MPs & the first family & 3 scams for a value of ₹5600 Crores. [sic]”

Annamalai said earlier this month that he would be releasing DMK Files Part 2 before his En Mann En Makkal (My Soil, My People) rally. He also said he would release the third and fourth instalments after the rally.

The BJP leader also issued a white paper on an alcohol-free Tamil Nadu.

Allegations of 3 new scams

Annamalai is said to have submitted documents to the Governor about three alleged scams that were worth ₹5,600 crore.

One, said to be worth ₹3,000 crore, allegedly took place in the ETL Infrastructure Services Limited.

The second allegedly took place in the Transport Department and costs ₹2,000 crore.

A third scam, worth ₹600 crore, is said to have taken place in the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC).

Annamalai took to the social media platform X to release a 16-minute video on these alleged scams.

In the video, he said the ETL Infrastructure Services Limited scam took place from 2006 to 2011, when current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin was the Industries Minister in the then-DMK government.

The other two scams, he said, happened during the current DMK regime.

One, said Annamalai, pertained to the misappropriation of funds within the Transport Department to the tune of ₹2,000 crore in the purchase and selling of reflective tapes and rear-marking plates through bogus agencies.

The state BJP chief also released an audio conversation held between the concerned minister’s personal assistant and an unidentified man, apparently talking about the collection of money.

He also said the ₹600-crore TNMSC scam pertained to the procurement of pesticides using bogus companies.

He demanded answers from the DMK government over the allegations made in DMK Files Part 2.

Annamalai also said he would speak about them in detail during the En Mann En Makkal roadshow.

‘Annamalai is distracting people’

RS Bharathi, the organising secretary of the DMK, said that Annamalai was distracting people with his lies because he knew the regional party would bag all 40 seats from Tamil Nadu in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“We do not know what is in the documents submitted to the Governor. The charges should be specific,” he said.

“Annamalai should send those documents to the state government as well. We are ready to counter each and every line of his allegations,” added the DMK leader.

After the release of the original DMK Files, the ruling party’s leaders — including TR Baalu, Kanimozhi, and Udhayanidhi Stalin — filed a defamation suit against Annamalai.

On behalf of MK Stalin, the state government also filed a defamation suit against the Tamil Nadu BJP chief.

The case was filed by public prosecutor Devaraj, who said that the allegations based on the files “released” by Annamalai to the press on 14 April were without any valid proof.

He sought punishment for the former police officer for defaming the chief minister.

Annamalai’s roadshow

Annamalai’s upcoming roadshow, named En Mann En Makkal, was postponed twice due to the Karnataka election.

It will now be kick-started by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, 28 July, at Rameswaram.

The roadshow, which has been divided into five phases, is expected to span 200 days and cover 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and 243 assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu.

It is scheduled to conclude in Chennai on 11 January next year.

The state BJP chief will reportedly be on the road for 120 days, and use the “Simha Vahana” — a vehicle designed like a lion — for the rest of the roadshow.

In the first phase, the rally will proceed from Rameswaram to Sivaganga, and then to the Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari districts.

The first phase will continue for 26 days, culminating in a public meeting at Tirunelveli before the first break.

Annamalai will cover two constituencies per day in rural areas and four constituencies in municipal areas.

A complaint box is planned to be set up for the public to share their grievances throughout the duration of the roadshow.

11 mega public meetings

The BJP is scheduled to have 11 mega public meetings during different phases of the roadshow, including in Tirunelveli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchy.

They are expected to see the participation of national leaders and Union ministers.

The party has appointed its state vice-president KS Nagendran as the in-charge of the rally, while its Sports Cell president Amar Prasad Reddy will be the deputy in-charge.

A total of 18 committees have been formed to coordinate Annamalai’s roadshow, his meeting with the public media, and community leaders, and also the public meetings at the end of the day.

Annamalai has invited the alliance partners in the state, including the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), to join the inaugural event of the roadshow in Rameshwaram.
