Actor Srikanth

Synopsis: Tamil actor Srikanth was arrested on June 23 for allegedly purchasing and using cocaine, as part of a wider drug and conspiracy probe linked to AIADMK IT Wing functionary Prasad. The case emerged after Prasad’s arrest in a bar brawl led to revelations about drug supply during a party for the film Theekirai, which Srikanth was starring in.

Tamil actor Srikanth was arrested by Chennai Police, on Monday, 23 June, on charges of purchasing and using cocaine, following an investigation into a wider drug supply and criminal conspiracy case involving an AIADMK IT Wing functionary.

Police sources revealed that Srikanth allegedly bought one gram of cocaine for ₹12,000. The arrest followed a medical examination and a detailed interrogation by Deputy Commissioner Jayachandran at the Nungambakkam Assistant Commissioner’s office.

The actor’s name surfaced during the interrogation of AIADMK IT Wing member Prasad, who was earlier arrested in connection with a brawl at a private bar in Nungambakkam. Prasad, along with AIADMK member Ajay Vandaiyar and rowdy “Tsunami” Sethupathi, were taken into custody last month for their involvement in the altercation.

Subsequent to Prasad’s arrest, multiple complaints were filed against him for allegedly cheating individuals by promising government jobs. He was also accused of drug abuse and supply, prompting police to investigate his links with the narcotics network.

During the probe, Prasad named Pradeep Kumar—already arrested in a cocaine supply case—as his source. Pradeep, in turn, revealed that cocaine had been supplied to actor Srikanth through Prasad.

The drug transaction is believed to have taken place during a party connected to the film Theekirai, which Prasad was co-producing with Srikanth in the lead role.
