A shocking incident at a private engineering college on Coimbatore-Palakkad Road has sparked outrage after a brutal assault on a first-year postgraduate student by first-year undergraduate students. 

The incident, which took place inside the college hostel, has gone viral on social media, fuelling widespread public condemnation.

Reports indicate that a group of first-year students accused the senior student of stealing money. In retaliation, they subjected him to a night-long ordeal, forcing him to kneel, raise his hands, and endure both physical and mental abuse. 

Despite the victim’s screams and severe injuries, the assault continued for hours. Disturbing videos of the attack have surfaced online, further intensifying shock and condemnation from viewers.

13 students suspended

Following an internal investigation, the Nehru College administration took swift action, suspending 13 first-year students who were involved in the assault. 

The college authorities have also assured that appropriate legal action will be taken. Meanwhile, the assaulted student is receiving medical treatment, and reports confirm that his condition is currently stable.

College issues clarification

The college administration has issued a clarification regarding the suspension of the students.

This incident is not related to ragging. A senior PG student was allegedly assaulted after suspecting that money was taken from a first-year student’s room.

Regarding this issue, the suspended students and the senior student will be questioned in the presence of their parents by the college administration tomorrow (24 March,2025), and appropriate action will be taken, as assured by the college authorities.
