West Nile Fever is a disease caused by the West Nile Virus, which primarily spreads through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Kerala’s Health Department has issued a statewide alert after seven cases of West Nile Fever disease and a death came to light. The disease is caused by a flavivirus related to mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika, dengue, yellow fever viruses and Japanese encephalitis. It primarily cycles between birds and mosquitoes, with humans and other mammals serving as incidental hosts.
