The alarmingly drying rivers, particularly in the Krishna and Bheema River basins, has plunged at least five districts of Karnataka into a severe water crisis. As the Congress leadership ramps up campaigning plans, local party leaders including MLAs are pressurising Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to first address the water crisis so that they can start campaigning without facing protests.
