The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has revised the method of calculating property taxes. However, there are shortcomings which need to be plugged. First is recovering crores in tax arrears, followed by regularizing properties through a proper ‘akrama sakrama’ scheme and finally, identifying illegal structures, encroachments and wrongly tagged property categories through geo-mapping.
