Nine workers, including five women, died in a fireworks-manufacturing unit explosion near Sengamalapatti in Sivakasi on Thursday, 9 May. Seven storage rooms were destroyed. Police and fire services aided the injured. The cause is under investigation. The unit was licensed. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed condolences and directed rescue efforts. Such accidents recur, questioning the government’s probity.
