K Jayaprakash Hegde, until recently Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, and two former MLAs, BM Sukumar Shetty and MP Kumaraswamy, earlier with the BJP, joined the Congress on Tuesday, 12 March. Hegde had authored the famous “caste census”, to the government on 29 February. He is likely to be the Congress candidate from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.
