After Kota Srinivas Poojary was elected as Lok Sabha MP, he resigned from the Karnataka legislative council. He was the Leader of Opposition in the House, and filling that vacancy became a contentious issue. Among MLCs in the contest is former minister CT Ravi. It is known that senior N Ravikumar, the chief whip of the BJP, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, are lobbying for this position.
