Although the incident was reported as a suicide on 18 March, initial suspicions surrounding the woman's death were confirmed by the police.

A 17-year-old boy’s statement led to his mother’s arrest for filicide. The boy said he saw his mother Jangamma hanging his sister Bhargavi (20) by the neck in their house at Dandumailaram in Telangana’s Rangareddy district. Degree student Bhargavi was in a relationship with a neighbourhood youth against the wish of Jangamma, who wanted her daughter to marry a relative.
