Stalin awards ₹75 lakh to chess champion Gukesh

Chennai-based Gukesh drew with American Hikaru Nakamura in the final round to not only win the prestigious tournament but also become the youngest ever challenger to the world title at 17.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday, 28 April, gave cash incentive of ₹75 lakh to chess star D Gukesh for winning the prestigious Candidates Tournament in Toronto. He also presented Gukesh with a shield and shawl in the presence of of the champion’s parents. Chennai-based Gukesh is the youngest ever challenger to the world title at 17.
