Soumya Swaminathan, former chief scientist of the WHO and ex-director general of the ICMR, has been appointed as principal advisor for the Union Health Ministry’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Program on a pro-bono basis. In this role, she will offer technical advice on strategy, policy directions, course corrections, and research strategy for optimal outcomes, the health ministry said.
