Parliament session witnesses fierce row over ‘Sengol’

Samajwadi Party said the Sengol - a symbol of monarchy - needed to be replaced by a copy of the Indian Constitution.

The joint sitting of the Parliament on Thursday, 27 June, witnessed a row over the Sengol placed near the Speaker’s chair in Lok Sabha. Samajwadi Party said Sengol, a monarchy symbol, must be replaced by a Constitution copy, adding it was demeaning India’s culture and democracy. BJP hit out saying they were insulting Tamil Nadu, where the Sengol belongs.
