The students' intention was to prank a friend.

The Karnataka CID ruled out the alleged communal angle in the Udupi Netra Jyoti College washroom filming case and stated in its charge sheet that the three women students had confessed to their actions. The students did it to “prank” a friend but inadvertently recorded someone else. However, since it is a punishable offence, the trio has been booked.
