According to the NIRF, South India has the highest number of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the top 100 institutions of India.

The NIRF rankings placed the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in the number one place, followed by the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, which clinched the second spot in the overall category of 100 top educational institutions. Apart from the top positions, many other institutions from south India have made their mark in this exhaustive list.
