Manmohan Singh retires from RS, leaders extend gratitude

Singh, who is known for ushering in several bold reforms in the economy, became a member of the House for the first time in October 1991.

Fifty-four Rajya Sabha members including former prime minister Manmohan Singh and nine union ministers retired on 2 and 3 April. Singh ends his 33-year-long parliamentary innings in the Rajya Sabha. Leaders eulogised him for his “rare combination of humility, intellect, and statesmanship”. Known for ushering in economic reforms, he entered the House for the first time in October 1991.
