Mysuru witnesses a battle between a ‘royal’ and the ‘ordinary’ as the scion of erstwhile Mysuru royal family, YK Chamaraja Wadiyar of BJP is pitted against M Lakshmana of Congress. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made it a prestige fight, saying voting for Lakshmana is “voting for me”. US-educated Wadiyar is quickly learning electoral politics, including addressing voters in chaste Kannada.
