While acquitting Kumar, the High Court also noted that he had undergone imprisonment for 10 years since 2013, when he was arrested, and was sentenced to death in 2018.

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday set aside the conviction and death sentence given to a man for the murder of a 57-year-old woman in 2013, saying there was no evidence before the trial court to convict him for any of the offences alleged against him or even give him capital punishment. The court also awarded the appellant compensation for his 10-year-long incarceration.
