Kerala circular for Thrissur Pooram celebration irks temple panels

A member of Thiruvambady Devaswom, main organisers of the pooram, said the directives were not practical and could not be implemented.

With the iconic Thrissur pooram just days away, temple committees have objected to a Kerala Wildlife Department circular banning the use of crackers, percussion and ‘theevetti’ (fire display) within a 50m radius of the parading elephants. None other than the mahouts should touch the pachyderms. The committees said the rules were impractical and asked the government for withdrawing them.
