An elephant on parade at Thrissur Pooram. Photo supplied.
With the iconic Thrissur pooram just days away, temple committees have objected to a Kerala Wildlife Department circular banning the use of crackers, percussion and ‘theevetti’ (fire display) within a 50m radius of the parading elephants. None other than the mahouts should touch the pachyderms. The committees said the rules were impractical and asked the government for withdrawing them.
