Amoebic meningoencephalitis is a rare but often fatal brain infection caused by the free-living organism Naegleria fowleri, better known as the "brain-eating amoeba".
A 14-year-old boy from Melady in Kozhikode has recovered from Amoebic Meningoencephalitis, a rare brain-eating amoebic infection. Health Minister Veena George termed it a rare incident in the world. “Only 11 people worldwide have recovered from this disease, which has a mortality rate of 97 percent. The health department took special measures to treat the boy, including providing Miltefosine,” she said.
