A farmer died by suicide on 19 May following a private money lender allegedly keeping his family under illegal house arrest for not repaying a loan, police said on Tuesday, 21 May. This happened in Belagavi district. The lender demanded full loan repayment and kept the farmer’s family under house arrest when the latter failed to pay.
