The judge observed that the Karnataka government's 60 percent Kannada signage rule under the recently passed law is prima facie untenable.
The Karnataka High Court has restrained the state government from taking any precipitative action against commercial establishments which fail to adhere to the rule that required 60 per cent of the signboard to be in Kannada, and said the matter required further consideration. The single-judge bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna observed that the rule was prima facie “untenable”.
