Hyderabad IRS officer’s name, gender changed in official records

The 35-year-old officer hails from Tamil Nadu and had requested that his gender identity and chosen name be recorded in his official records.

The Union government approved the request of a trans civil service officer to change the name and gender assigned to him at birth from official records and replace his dead name with his chosen name. IRS officer posted at Hyderabad, M Anukathir Surya’s plea to change his name and assigned gender was approved on 9 July by the Ministry of Finance.
