FSSAI has raised the maximum residue limits of pesticides for spice products to 0.1mg/kg from 0.01mg/kg.
The Union government on Sunday said India has one of the stringent norms to avoid pesticide residues in food items. It rejected reports that the FSSAI allows high residue levels in spices and herbs. The clarification comes amid a ban by the Hong Kong food regulator on certain spice mixes. FSSAI is collecting branded spice samples from the domestic market.
