Don’t harass TN collectors unnecessarily, SC tells ED

On 27 February, the top court had directed the five district collectors of Vellore, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Thanjavur and Ariyalur to appear before the ED in connection with the probe.

Supreme Court on 6 May asked ED not to “unnecessarily harass” the five Tamil Nadu district collectors after the state complained about the officials being made to sit at the agency’s offices all day in connection with a money laundering probe. On 2 April, the court had pulled up the collectors for not appearing physically before ED despite orders.
