Can India embrace community-based mental health care?

WHO advocates for the deinstitutionalisation of mental health care and offering recommendations tailored to each country's needs.

The World Health Organization (WHO) claims that in countries across the Southeast Asia region, including India, a startling 95 out of 100 individuals are being denied the mental health care they need. The report calls for a global shift towards community-based mental health care. The challenges, however, are shortage of mental health professionals, deep-seated stigma and cultural barriers.
