CAA violates Constitution’s secular principle: CPI(M)

The Left party alleged that the implementation of the rules was linked to the NRC and raised apprehensions that Muslims would be targeted.

The CPI(M) on Tuesday opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act notification and claimed that it violates the secular principle of the Constitution by linking citizenship to religious identity. It raised the apprehension that citizens of Muslim origin would be targeted. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury alleged that the notification, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, is aimed at “sharpening communal divide”.
