Blood group mix-up leaves K’taka newborn twins motherless

Sharada's family has sought criminal action against all the staff responsible for her death.

A woman in Vijayapura, Karnataka, died of renal failure after she was infused with blood from the wrong group after she had delivered a pair of twins. Sharada Doddamani’s blood group was A+-ve, but the district hospital inadvertently gave her B+-ve blood. An investigation by district surgeon Dr Shivanand Mastiholi confirmed the error and terminated the services of three nurses.
