A bird flu outbreak has been reported in two places in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, officials said on Thursday, 18 April. Locally reared ducks are the affected birds. A Bhopal lab confirmed it after samples tested positive for avian influenza (H5N1). Birds within a kilometre from the epicentre will be culled to prevent spread. The disease does not spread to humans.
