An outbreak of avian flu (H5N1) at the government-run regional poultry farm at Manarcad in Kerala’s Kottayam has led to a ban on the import of poultry into the district. A decision was taken to euthanize and cremate domesticated and pet birds within a kilometre radius of the farm and disinfect the area, the district administration said on Thursday, 23 May.
