The body of Joy was found on 15 July, 46 hours after he was swept away in Amayizhanchan canal in Thiruvananthapuram. The Fire and Rescue Department personnel were among the first responders. The men entered the canal most would avoid. The canal was filled with dirt from the capital city, including human waste. It was heavily contaminated. It, however, did not deter the professionals.
