A rare brain disease—Amoebic meningoencephalitis— has claimed a second life in Kerala. This time 13-year-old Dakshina from Kannur was the victim. She was infected with vermamoeba vermiformis, among the most prevalent free-living amoeba. It enters the body through the nose, usually while swimming, Travelling up the nose to the brain, it destroys brain tissue causing brain swelling.
