Ambedkar and Kerala HC: Differing on caste, priesthood

Dr Ambedkar had a radical prescription for restructuring priesthood in Hinduism, but the Kerala High Court verdict was at variance.

The Kerala High Court recently held that only ‘Malayali Brahmins’ can be Melsanthis (high priests) of Sabarimala Devaswom and Malikappuram Devaswom, and such a provision would not amount to untouchability. The counter argument is that Malayali Brahmins have no special privilege for being appointed Melsanthis. Ambedkar had a radical prescription for restructuring priesthood, but the verdict was at variance with it.
